I’ve just noticed (thanks Luke) that Google Street View is now available in Australia, and in fact in my home town, Caloundra!

For those that don’t know, Google Street View is the Big Brother type service where Google have taken photos throughout the streets, so you can basically see a photo of almost any road (that they’ve finished).

Easiest way to show it is some examples!

For the final Friday photo for July (or first for August) I’ll show Richmond Park.

We live 10 minutes walk from Richmond Park, and it’s like entering another world. Richmond Park is the largest open space in London covering almost 1000 hectares (2500 acres). So it’s like a little trip to the country almost in the centre of London (well not QUITE, but still pretty close)

Without further ado, Richmond Park!

So I didn’t post about my birthday, so I thought I’d use the Friday photo to show my work party.

My workmates really got into the Aussie theme and all donned homemade koala masks as well as had a couple of Aussie cork hats. Then we headed out to the Walkabout Aussie pub!

And on the weekend, we had our annual Fiesta Havana Fulham Salsa picnic in the park! We headed to Hyde Park and braved the weather (which held out as overcast but dry) for a go on the pedal boats in the Serpentine (never again, my legs are too long!) and then some soccer in the park.

Wow! I actually remembered to do the Friday Photo on a friday!

Interesting aside: Today, July 11 is the day before my birthday, however I was actually born on July 11th in the UK because I was born at 8:32am on July 12th in Australia (which is 11:32pm July 11th in the UK!)

Anyway, enough of that, we’re here for pics!

So Saturday saw the return of a favourite on the Summer Salsa calendar, the Carnival de Cuba.

Summer in London means festival time with a number of festivals ranging from music, to dance, to theatre. And for salsa it means the Carnival de Cuba and in August, the Colombian Fesitval (Carnival del Pueblo).Bibi, Erik and Sean at the Carnival

So a group of us from Havana headed down again for this year’s carnival and had a great time. They’d moved to the southern end of Southwark park, so this year had a lot more space for the stage and the cuban/carribean stalls with everything from food, to crafts, to a drum workshop and an area for hula hoops!

So we had a great time in the London sunshine (thankfully no rain this year) sitting listening to the music, dancing and watching the shows. As well as sampling the cuban food (hot hot hot!)

Ewa, Matthias and Judy at the after partyAfter heading home to recoup, a few of us headed back out to the official carnival after party at Club Colosseum in Vauxhall for a 5 room, 6 hour salsa spectacular.

I stayed til 3am when I ran out of steam and headed home to bed, but had a great night and a great day overall!

Ok… so it’s a little late again! Never mind…

MI6 (left), home of British Secret Service (and Bond… James Bond) and St George Wharf apartments (right)
I walk across this bridge and past these every day, and only just realised that building is MI6! Explains the overbearing look and police that are always outside it.

I’m VERY bad at this I can see…

Excuse is conjunctivitis keeping me down, but enough of that, here are some belated Friday photos!

Soooo.. after 4 posts I got lazy and forgot to post for a week..

And what a week it was.

Tuesday saw me down with conjunctivitis (which I might add, is still around and getting worse).

Wednesday I dragged myself out of bed and down to work, only to find our building on fire. It seems the big diesel generator that runs our air conditioning caught alight (not surprising after the number of overheats we’ve had of late) Seems it caught alight at about 8:50am, just in time for most of us to arrive to a smoking building. After a quick meeting in the nearby cafe, headed home to do what we could. Luckily, nothing was burnt (apart from the generator obviously) so back to work Thursday without delay.

Friday, I got my new phone! It’s a Nokia N82 and it’s fantastic! It’s got a 5mega pixel camera with real xenon flash and GPS!! So I’ve been playing with that quite a lot. Friday night we went out on the town and ended up in Shoreditch, and at 3am my trusty new phone cum GPS lead me home (via a kebab shop).

Excellent work!

Pictures to come…

Hmmmm, yes well today I’m home sick because this morning I woke up with conjunctivitis and couldn’t open my eyes.

So that, combined with my cold and my hayfever makes me a dull boy 🙁

On an interesting note, I wasn’t aware that you could buy antibiotics over the counter from a pharmacy… well for conjunctivitis you can. Nothing else.. just this. So Optrex for Infected Eyes, hoorah!

Back to bed I guess…
